How to read picture books with young children:
Hold the child in your lap or sit closely side by side.
Notice one or two interesting things about the picture on the cover. Touch the picture as you talk about it.
Turn the pages together as you look at and talk about the pictures on each page. * During the 1st "reading" you don't even need to read the words yet.
Keep the experience positive and interesting to the child. If you don't make it through the whole story, it's ok!
Create a couple of routines that you repeat each time you read the book. For example, say "Hi there" to the main character or make your fingers JUMP to the next page or find the orange kitty and say "Peek a boo."
